Scuba Skills Diver Update

This scuba diving course is designed for certified divers who need to sharpen their skills. If you have been out of the water for a while and think you need a refresher, this is the course for you. On the island, there are over 30 dive sites with a variety of marine life that will leave you in awe. Come and scuba dive with LBD.

The Try Dive Course allows you to feel what it's like to breathe through a regulator and explore the fascinating underwater environment of Koh Tao.

Open Water (20m) Dive Course

- You can acquire your diver certification in three and a half days if you do the Open Water Course. If you are short on time, there is also the option to fast-track your course and complete it even sooner (prices may vary for fast-track courses). You will receive all of the necessary training and experience while being taught by experienced teachers. When you obtain your open water certification, you will be able to dive to a depth of 20 metres. The Open Water course usually only allows you to dive to 18 metres. Explorer 30 (Advanced Open Water)

5 adventure specialty dive courses are included in your training; including a night dive, a deep dive, buoyancy dive, navigation and a wreck dive to a WWII American battleship which was donated to the Thai government to create an artificial reef - The HTMS Sattakut. If you already have your Open Water certification and wish to advance further then this is the course for you. Please remember that it is your responsibility to complete this course and we will provide you with all the help and support that you need. -One of the most important diving courses you should do. When you are training to be a rescue and first-aid diver, you will learn how to react in an emergency, how to help others, how to anticipate potential issues before they occur, and how to assist individuals who require assistance both in and out of the water.

Divemaster Dive course

Finally, you've made the decision to become a pro dive master. You will get 6 to 8 weeks of unforgettable instruction at LBD. For qualified divers, our instructors will teach you all of the information, tactics, and abilities you'll need to conduct your own dives. Furthermore, since a Divemaster requires at least 40 dives, you will have limitless dives at LBD. The cost covers the training, supplies, and specialties in deep and nitrox diving training.

Escape The Reef Dive

Our challenges will put you to the test, as well as your teamwork and diving abilities. While communicating using your underwater slate, you navigate the courses and gather game pieces to assist your progress to the next phase. When you come upon any hidden treasure, you will feel the buzz of your underwater metal detector, something is hiding! To collect your prize, find the most pieces and climb to the top of the leaderboard. Escape the Reef requires you to compete both alone and as part of a team. Breakfast, one escape room dive, and prizes are included in the fee. Can you do it? Will you escape? Come and find out.

UV Night Dive

A UV Night Dive, also known as a "Fluo Night," involves diving down while using special Ultra Violet lights and a unique visor that allows you to view the underwater fluorescence. Not only will the corals in your immediate vicinity shine with a rainbow of colours, but so will the marine life.

Sail Rock Dive Trip

The famous Sail Rock, just a short trip away from Koh Tao island is home to some of the most amazing schools of fish. Expect to see Whalesharks, schools of barracuda, snapper and many more. As an advanced open water diver, you can also explore the chimney that goes down to 26m. The price includes the day trip, breakfast, lunch, 2 dives at Sail Rock and unlimited soft drinks. Travel time will be approximately 60 minutes.

Koh Tao Dive Sites

With over 30 dive sites to explore, we will look at the best sites Koh Tao diving has to offer and some of my personal favourites:

Chumphon Pinnacle

My all-time favourite place to dive on Koh Tao is just a 30-minute boat ride from the pier. With a maximum depth of 40m, this site is perfect for beginners and highly-trained divers. You will see lots of Barracuda, Lionfish, Eels, giant groupers, huge schools of fusilier fish, shrimps and many more. Chumphon Pinnacle is also one of the most common places scuba divers see a Whaleshark whilst diving around Koh Tao.

Southwest Pinnacle

My second-favourite deep Koh Tao dive site is only a 40 minute boat journey away. It is a relatively small dive site and another good place to see a Whaleshark, often the most desired marine life Koh Tao divers would like to see. You will expect to see the usual marine life here but it also has a "secret pinnacle" which isn't really much of a secret. The secret pinnacle does have some amazing schools of Barracuda to see which you will be amazed by. Southwest Pinnacle is also home to a massive school of one-spot snapper which are common on Koh Tao but not in these numbers. Maximum depth is around 30m.

Twins

Called Twins (Twin Rock) even though there are three pinnacles to check out. Twins is very close to Koh Nang Yuan island with another fantastic dive site called "Japanese Gardens" being on the opposite side of the beach. Twins is unique in that it has "Buoyancy World" with lots of underwater sculptures and artificial coral reefs. You can also practice your buoyancy skills with the metal frames to swin through. You will expect to see Eels, Rays, Triggerfish, and Scorpionfish among others. The maximum depth is around 25m.

White Rock

Discovered and named by an Italian diver along with Red Rock and Green Rock (colours of the Italian flag). White Rock is one of the most popular dive sites in Koh Tao and is only about 10 minutes away from Sairee Beach. You will expect to see the usual suspects here and it is perfect for beginners and advanced divers alike. A lot of the night diving on Koh Tao is done at White Rock and it is just 2 minutes away from Hin Pee Wee which has the HTMS Sattakut; an American WWII battleship.

Is Koh Tao Dangerous?

Koh Tao is generally regarded as a safe place to visit. Despite the presence of narcotics and very rare cases of petty thievery, crime is found in almost any country. The vast majority of vacations to Koh Tao go according to plan.

When you consider that the island attracts over 100,000 visitors each year, the chances of something horrible occurring to you are quite remote. You're more likely to fall off a motorcycle, drown, or be hit by a car on the island than to get into trouble. Whether there is a mafia or not, your safety is contingent on your common sense and ability to avoid problems.

In Koh Tao, there are no fixed prices or metered taxis, therefore the price is determined by your skill to haggle. They normally charge per passenger and will strive to fill as many seats as possible before leaving. If you're travelling alone or with a partner, you'll almost certainly have to pay twice as much if you want to depart right away.

In Koh Tao, taxis are safe to ride in, but make sure you agree on a fare before getting in. As a general rule, most places on the island will set you back at least a few hundred baht.

If you ever get into an accident, we have the incredible Rescue Koh Tao service who will be the first responders to an accident. There are also many clinics and a hospital that you can go to for treatment with modern facilities.

Getting Around In Koh Tao

There are three main areas of Koh Tao to explore - Sairee, Mae Haad and Chalok Baan Kao. LBD is based in Chalok Baan Kao which is on the south of Koh Tao island. The best way to get around is by renting or buying a motorbike or scooter from the many rental places available on the island.

Sairee - Sairee is home to some amazing restaurants along Sairee beach with beautiful sunset views. Sairee beach also has a dive site nearby called "Sairee Reef" which is a fantastic beginner dive site. Many dive schools will leave the island by boat either from Sairee beach or Mae Haad pier. Sairee is definitely the place to be for the party goers.

Mae Haad - This is where you will depart from the boat when you first come to Koh Tao. This is also where we leave to go explore the local dive sites. Mae Haad also has some amazing restaurants with many being on the beach.

Chalok Baan Kao - Chalok is a lot quieter than Mae Haad and Sairee with gorgeous surroundings and peaceful nights, it is the perfect place to be to get away from the hustle and bustle of other areas of the island. LBD is situated in Chalok on the beach. Enjoy our amazing infinity pool and cool down with some drinks from the bar. Bliss!

Diving Safely On Koh Tao

Many divers will dive safely because they understand the importance of being safe whilst exploring. You should always dive with a buddy to minimise the possibility of problems occurring such as running out of air. You do get some divers who are not as safe as the rest of us; they could be easily distracted or they may panic in a situation and not know what to do. When diving with LBD, no matter what diving course you do, we will teach you the importance of safety when diving. Your instructor will ensure they teach you how to properly set up your equipment, how to communicate effectively underwater and what to do in an emergency situation. Check your air! This should be the number one thing you regularly do when diving. Be honest, if you breathe through your air quicker than the others, don't be embarrassed - tell your buddy or instructor.
